Chapter One Embodying the Dao The Dao that can be spoken of is not a constant path The Name (of the Dao) that can be named is not a constant name Nameless, (the Dao) is the beginning of Heaven and Earth Named, (the Way) is the mother of All Things of Creation Therefore Constantly (practicing the Way) without desire enables one to observe its wonders Constantly (practicing the Way) with desire enables one to observe its limitations These two aspects Arise from the same source, yet are differently named The perplexity of speaking about them at the same time This mystery contains yet more mysteries And is the Gate to the Myriad of Wonders |
